Cyclone Chasers: The Tale of Alfred, March 2025
It all began like any great chase in Cyclone Chasers—a swirling low just off the Coral Sea, whispering its intentions. By the Feb 20th, that whisper turned into a rumble, and by the 22nd, the system had gathered enough strength to earn a name: Alfred.
The players were ready.
Windy Waldo, calm and clinical, barely raised an eyebrow.
Blowin’ Biggins declared, “It’s headed straight for Cairns with Category 5 fury!”
Tossin’ Tools threw spaghetti models across the table, “It’ll spin back out to sea, trust me!”
And of course, Vegas Degas, ever dramatic, live-streamed every radar blip with fireworks and overlays: “This is history in the making!”
But Alfred had other plans.
By March 3rd, the cyclone began edging westward, and the stakes in the game rose—who would predict where landfall would occur? The Title of the Tracker was on the line.
Each turn in the game, players placed bets, posted forecasts, and updated their fan counts. Blowin' Biggins was trending. Vegas had drones in the sky. Tossin’ Tools had a map full of conflicting arrows.
But Windy Waldo?
He just tapped the board, quietly marking his daily predictions with steady precision.
“Tomorrow: edging south. Pressure dropping. Tracking near the Bay. Likely crossing near Moreton Island within 36 hours.”
No hype. No hedging.
And then—it happened.
On March 7th, Severe Tropical Cyclone Alfred crossed over Moreton Bay Island, just as Windy Waldo had calmly forecast days before. While the others were still debating the definition of "landfall," Waldo was already there—waiting—with all his followers cheering in silent awe.
