The Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) helps us understand weather patterns by comparing air pressure between Darwin and Tahiti. When there's low pressure near Darwin, it means more storms and rain could be on the way. The SOI also shows how high pressure moves between the Indian Ocean and the Tasman Sea. This tells us when to expect showers, especially in places like North Queensland.
