Todays weather explained in simple terms. The trough is stationary today, that's the dashed line over QLD. Troughs pull air in, then air is pushed up into the sky, it cools and creates rain or storms depending on conditions.
The lack of a High over the Coral Sea means very little wind. That's why in the morning the air heats, rises off the ground, cools and just stays in valleys or rivers where it can't escape. Thus fog.
We have this setup for the next few days, an East Coast Low will block any new High from creating onshore winds.
A new High was pushed South over NZ, and the next may do the same. This opens up for any monsoonal event to sit in the Coral Sea with little to move it. This can be followed along with in the Long Range with a Big Shout at http://wallysweather.com.au/community
