Monsoon Update

With 07U is moving into the Gulf overnight and deepening over the next day, however, it may not stay in the Gulf long enough to deepen into a tropical cyclone even though the conditions are good. As the new High moves into the Tasman, there is a trough to the North that the low will move alone to the SW. That may not be all we see of this low, as it may pass over the NW WA coastline. The trough will still reach from there over the Peninsula and produce rain and storms for the next week.

National

Troughs and a low-pressure system will bring showers and storms to the tropics, northern Western Australia, and Queensland, while also building heat in western Western Australia. Another trough will bring showers and storms to northern New South Wales. High pressure over the Bight will result in settled and dry conditions in the southern regions.

State

A weak trough in the northwestern and western parts of the state will bring unsettled conditions. A ridge of high pressure extends over central and southern Queensland, causing onshore showers on the east coast. This ridge may strengthen on Thursday with a new high pressure system approaching. The monsoon trough in the Gulf of Carpentaria and western Cape York Peninsula will deepen and a tropical low is expected to move east into the Gulf on Wednesday. This low will then shift south over the Gulf Coast towards the end of the week or early weekend, resulting in increased rainfall in Far North Queensland from Wednesday.
