Monsoon Special:
The next monsoon pulse due in Phase 6 (Gulf to Coral Sea) around the 26th March to 2nd April. Due to the 3rd pulse normally being weak, it tends to come around quicker so could be a week earlier.
Current position of TC Alfred:

Looking at the Wind Gusts, it's just easier to see the peak of the storm that way. Three points of interest, when the winds pick up during the night (9pm 6th), when they peak tomorrow (7am 7th) and when the winds reverse as the eye crosses 4pm 7th). And I am sure those times will change again. But as I said, the system is here. The key thing to work out is the eye when it quietens down before the winds reverse.
Zoomed up on the eye, yes that is 137km/h peak expected, could be more:
Model comparison for when the peak should be, ECMWF (100km/h) first, GFS (88km/h) next then ACCESS (145km/h).
Rainfall for the next 24 hours EC, GFS, ACCESS and ACCESS C BN
Queensland Synoptic
Tropical Cyclone Alfred is creeping towards the southeast coast, stirring up some strong winds and big waves - so maybe hold off on that beach day. It's expected to make landfall tonight or tomorrow morning, then lose steam as it moves inland and eventually fizzles out next week. In the meantime, there's a pesky trough hanging out in the western and central interior, just to keep things interesting. But don't worry, a ridge will bring some much-needed moisture to eastern and northern Queensland by Sunday.
Forecast for Herbert and Lower Burdekin:
Get ready for a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow, with a sneaky chance of a shower up north in the arvo. Keep an eye out for a possible thunderstorm in the same area later on. The winds will be light, doing a little dance from the north to northeast before calling it a night. Overnight, it'll cool down to the low to mid 20s, while daytime temps will climb to the low to high 30s. So, pack your sunscreen and umbrella, just in case!
