Queensland Synoptic
Tropical Cyclone Alfred is heading towards the southeast coast, causing severe coastal hazards near Sandy Cape, with a potential landfall expected late Thursday or early Friday before fizzling out over the weekend; meanwhile, a pesky trough will hang around the western and central interior for a while, while a high over the Tasman Sea will bring more moisture to the northeast coast starting Saturday.
Forecast for Herbert and Lower Burdekin:
Get ready to soak up the sun today with just a teensy chance of rain up north - like finding a needle in a haystack. Keep an eye out for a thunderstorm in the northern parts later in the day. The breeze will be light so your hat won't go flying off. Tonight, temperatures will drop to the low to mid 20s - don't forget to grab a blanket! Tomorrow, get ready to bask in the low to high 30s. So, get out there and enjoy the weather, folks!

JTWC Report: From 1am Tropical Cyclone Alfred is about 540 km east of Brisbane, moving west at 11 km/h (6 knots) with sustained winds of 100 km/h (55 knots). The system remains a category 2 cyclone but has hybrid characteristics, with strong wind shear and dry air affecting its structure. Alfred is expected to continue tracking slowly westward, making landfall near Brisbane in about 48 hours. Wind speeds may remain steady, with a slight chance of intensification before landfall as conditions improve. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and coastal impacts are likely for southeast Queensland. Residents should prepare for possible flooding, damaging winds, and hazardous surf.
