How to read the rainfall forecast

Many people are often confused by what the rainfall forecast actually means. Now having done the BOM training they also agree that it is confusing, but this is what it means:

The percentage is the chance of any rain, ie 0.2mm or more.

The number to the left is 50% chance of that amount and the right is 25% chance.

Example:

Sunday 2 July

80% of at least 0.2mm

50% chance of 2mm

25% chance of 30mm

Hope this helps when reading the daily weather forecast.
