National Synoptic Situation

National Temperature and Rainfall

State conditions

QLD:

Hold onto your hats, Queenslanders! A trough is sauntering its way through the western part of the state, sipping up moisture like a thirsty camel. It's taking its sweet time, slowly meandering westward and planning to bid us adieu by Saturday. Meanwhile, up north, a weak ridge is hanging around like a clingy ex, thanks to a high chilling out in the Tasman Sea. But wait, there's more! An upper trough is making its grand entrance down south today, strutting its stuff before heading to the southeast tomorrow and eventually sashaying off into the ocean. This could mean a bit of extra rain for the region, so don't forget your umbrellas! And to top it all off, a new high is swooping in like a superhero on Friday, setting up shop in the Tasman Sea and extending its reach over most of the state. So buckle up, Queenslanders, because it looks like we're in for some stormy weather ahead. Remember, stay safe out there and avoid any unnecessary risks during storms or heatwaves. Mother Nature can be a fickle friend, so let's make sure we're prepared for whatever she throws our way.

NSW and ACT:

Well, it seems like we've got a high pressure system chilling over the Tasman Sea, casually extending its ridge along the New South Wales coast. Meanwhile, a broad trough is just hanging out over the inland, probably taking a break from all the action. Oh, and let's not forget about that other trough bringing a southerly change to the southern and central parts of the coast - talk about a party crasher! Now, don't get too excited because that southerly change is gonna stall and weaken on Thursday and Friday as the ridge decides it's time to make a comeback. And surprise, surprise, not much is gonna change until early next week when a trough and cold front decide to crash the party. Expect some warm to hot conditions before the cool, unsettled conditions come rolling in. So, while you're out there enjoying the sunshine or trying to stay cool in the heatwave, just remember to stay safe and keep an eye out for any stormy surprises. Mother Nature has a way of keeping us on our toes, after all!

VIC:

Well, it seems like we've got some high pressure system making its way across the Bight and heading towards the Tasman Sea. And let's not forget about that trough lurking over central Australia, ready to deepen over our lovely State on Sunday. With all this talk of systems and ridges, it's important to stay safe and be prepared for any potential storms or heatwaves that may come our way. So, keep an eye on the weather updates and make sure you're ready to weather the storm, both literally and figuratively.

SA:

Well, it seems like Mother Nature is playing a game of musical chairs with high and low pressure systems over South Australia this week. As if that weren't enough, a low pressure trough is planning to crash the party over the weekend, bringing along some stormy weather to spice things up. But wait, there's more! A high pressure system will be making an appearance early next week, just to keep us on our toes. So, buckle up folks, it looks like we're in for a wild ride of changing weather patterns. Remember to stay safe and prepared for any storms or heatwaves that may come our way. And as always, keep an eye on the forecast to stay one step ahead of Mother Nature's unpredictable games.

WA:

Attention all weather enthusiasts, buckle up as a wide low pressure trough is currently hanging out over the northern regions of the state. This could potentially result in some wild storms or scorching heatwaves, so make sure to keep yourself safe and prepared for whatever Mother Nature decides to throw our way. Stay weather savvy and stay safe out there!

TAS:

Hold onto your hats, Tasmania! We've got a wild west to southwesterly airstream coming our way as a cold front decides to take a vacation to the east. But don't worry, a high pressure centre is here to save the day, slowly making its way over from the Bight on Thursday and settling over the Tasman Sea by Friday. This means we can expect a nice warm north to northeasterly stream flowing through the state. But wait, there's more! Saturday brings a shift to a northwesterly airstream as a trough decides to crash our party from the west, crossing early Sunday. And just when you thought it was safe to go outside, another high centre over the Bight extends its reach to the south of Tasmania on Sunday, bringing a southeasterly airstream our way. So, in summary, we've got a stormy mix of winds and pressure systems coming our way. Make sure to stay safe and hold onto your umbrellas, folks!

NT:

Prepare yourselves, dear weather enthusiasts, as a trough is about to deepen near the base of the Top End. Brace yourselves for some windy conditions in the southern half as a high moves across the Bight. Just when you thought it was safe to go outside, another trough will swoop in and turn the winds northerly once more. Stay safe out there and hold onto your hats during this weather rollercoaster!

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Thursday, 2nd January

Looks like Mother Nature is up to her usual tricks, with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms scattered about the state. Make sure to stay safe, especially if you're between Port Douglas and St Lawrence, where severe thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts. In the far southwest, it's mostly sunny - so enjoy it while you can! And don't forget your sunscreen, as those maximum temperatures are above average in the far north. But if you're in the eastern districts south of Townsville, temperatures are below average - so maybe grab a sweater. With light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds, it's not too bad out there. Just keep an eye on the sky and be prepared for any sudden changes. Stay safe out there, folks!

Friday, 3rd January

Prepare yourself for some dramatic weather today, folks! Expect a mix of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state, with a high chance of widespread storms around the North Tropical Coast and Peninsula. So, stay safe and keep an eye on the skies, especially if you're in those areas. In the far west interior south of Mount Isa, it's looking mostly sunny - a nice break from the stormy action elsewhere. Maximum temperatures will be above average in the far north and far west, below average in eastern districts south of about Ingham, and near average everywhere else. Remember, when it comes to storms and heatwaves, safety always comes first. So, be prepared and take precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones. Stay safe out there!

Saturday, 4th January

Prepare your sunscreen and umbrellas, folks! We've got a smorgasbord of weather coming our way. Expect a mishmash of showers and thunderstorms scattered across the state, with particular emphasis on the North Tropical Coast and Peninsula - they're going to be having a real party. Meanwhile, the southern interior west of Roma will be basking in mostly sunny skies, probably sipping cocktails by the pool. Temperatures will be doing some funky dance moves too. In the far north and far west, they'll be cranking up the heat to above average levels, while in the eastern districts south of Townsville, things will be cooler than a cucumber. Everywhere else will be cruising along at near average temperatures, so you won't have to worry about breaking a sweat. Remember to stay safe out there, especially if you find yourself caught in one of those thunderstorms. And if you're in the blazing hot areas, make sure to stay hydrated and seek shade whenever possible. Mother Nature can be a real drama queen sometimes, so it's best to be prepared for whatever she throws our way.

Sunday, 5th January

Prepare yourselves for some scorching heat in the far north and far west, while the eastern districts south of Townsville will be feeling a bit chillier. Keep an eye out for isolated thunderstorms in the north and far east - Mother Nature is feeling a bit feisty today. Remember to stay safe and hydrated in these extreme conditions!
