State conditions

QLD:

Hold onto your hats, Queensland! A trough is making its way across the state, bringing with it the potential for storms and heatwaves. As it moves east, it will reach the southeast coast on Thursday before heading northward towards central and northeastern Queensland over the weekend. Meanwhile, a high in the Bight will extend a ridge over western and interior Queensland, adding to the drama. To add to the excitement, a low may decide to make an appearance near the northern New South Wales coast, causing showers and gusty winds in the far southeast of the state. And just when you thought things couldn't get any more interesting, an equatorial trough might form over the far northern Peninsula in the coming days. So, stay safe out there, Queenslanders! Keep an eye out for any stormy weather or scorching heatwaves heading your way. And remember, it's always better to be prepared than sorry.

NSW and ACT:

Hold onto your hats, because a chilly front is about to crash the party in our state. This front, along with its trusty sidekick, the trough, will be making their way across our humble abode today and into Thursday, before jetting off to form a low pressure system up north. As if that weren't exciting enough, we can look forward to a delightful mix of wet and windy conditions along the coast and nearby mountain ranges for the remainder of the week and through the weekend. This is all thanks to the low pressure system and its buddy, a high pressure system, who will be tag-teaming to bring us a fresh to strong southeasterly airstream. So, in the midst of all the stormy excitement, remember to stay safe and secure any loose items that might get blown away. And of course, keep an eye out for any potential heatwaves that might sneak up on us during this tumultuous weather period. Stay safe out there, folks!

VIC:

Well, it looks like a high pressure system is strutting its stuff over Victoria and is planning a grand tour across the Bight on Thursday. Not to be outdone, the high will then saunter over to the west of Tasmania on Friday before graciously contracting to the southeast over the weekend. Meanwhile, a cheeky trough of low pressure is set to crash the party in western parts of the state on Sunday. With all these weather shenanigans going on, it's probably a good idea to stay safe and be prepared for any storms or heatwaves that may come our way. Mother Nature can be quite the drama queen, after all.

SA:

Prepare for some wild weather as a high south of the Bight struts its stuff and moves southeastwards towards Tasmania. This high will be joined by a persistent ridge over SA, creating the perfect storm for some intense conditions. Keep an eye out for a weak trough loitering about the far west over the weekend, adding an extra flair to the mix. Stay safe out there and make sure to take necessary precautions to weather the storm or heatwave that may be headed your way.

WA:

Well, it seems like Mother Nature is playing a game of hide and seek with us, leaving a low pressure trough hanging around in the northern parts of the state. Keep an eye out for any potential monsoon action in the Timor Sea later this week, with a tropical low possibly making an appearance near the Kimberley or Pilbara coast. Stay safe out there, folks, and remember to prepare for any potential storms or heatwaves that may come our way.

TAS:

Get ready for some wild weather! Tonight, westerlies will be blowing in after a cold front passes through. A high pressure system will be setting up shop over the Bight, extending over Tasmania by Thursday. As we move into Friday, the high will be making its way to the west and south of the state, bringing with it an easterly flow on Saturday. And just when you thought it was safe to go outside, another high will be forming over the Bight on Sunday. With all these weather patterns shifting around, it's important to stay safe and be prepared for any storms or heatwaves that may come our way. So grab your umbrellas and sunscreen, folks, and hold on tight!

NT:

As we head into the end of the week, prepare yourself for a battle between dry southeasterly winds in the south and persistent showers and thunderstorms in the north. It's like a stormy soap opera playing out in the Territory! Keep an eye out for that weak monsoon trying to make an appearance in the Top End - it's like the shy cousin at a family gathering, always arriving late to the party. With scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the forecast, it's important to stay safe and dry. As we move into next week, rainfall will become more isolated in the northern parts of the Territory. It's like Mother Nature is playing a game of hide and seek with her precipitation, keeping us on our toes. So, remember to stay safe and prepared for whatever weather comes our way. Whether it's storms or heatwaves, it's always best to be ready for anything. Stay dry out there, folks!

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Thursday, 16th January

Prepare for scorching temperatures in the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, North West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Keep cool and stay safe during these intense heatwaves. Remember to stay hydrated and seek shade to avoid the wrath of the impending storms.

Friday, 17th January

Well, it seems like Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody today. We've got mostly sunny skies in western, central, and southern interior Queensland, with a chance of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms popping up elsewhere. Keep an eye out for those storms, they can be quite the drama queens. Over on the east coast between Hervey Bay and St Lawrence, you might only see a few isolated showers trying to steal the spotlight. But don't be fooled, those showers can really make a splash when they want to. If you find yourself near the southern Border Ranges in South East Queensland or the far northern Peninsula, be prepared for some widespread showers crashing the party. And let's not forget about those maximum temperatures - they're below average in southern Queensland, but near or above average in other areas. In fact, central to northeast coast is looking to be well above average. It's like Mother Nature turned up the heat and forgot to turn it back down. Speaking of heat, there are some severe heatwave conditions in parts of central and northeastern Queensland. So, stay safe out there and remember to hydrate, seek shade, and maybe invest in a good fan or two. It's all fun and games until someone gets heatstroke.

Saturday, 18th January

Prepare yourself for a mixed bag of weather today, with mostly sunny skies in the south of Mount Isa and west of Hughenden to Augathella. Keep an eye out for isolated showers and thunderstorms in other areas, especially in Far North Queensland and southeastern Queensland. Showers may become more widespread over the northern Peninsula and around the southern Border Ranges in South East Queensland. Don't be fooled by the fresh to strong southeasterly winds along the southeast coast - they can pack a punch! Maximum temperatures will be below average in the south and southeast, but near or above average in other areas. In fact, some parts of northeast Queensland are experiencing severe to locally extreme heatwave conditions, so make sure to stay cool and hydrated. Remember, when it comes to storms and heatwaves, safety always comes first. Stay informed, stay prepared, and most importantly, stay safe out there!

Sunday, 19th January

Prepare yourself for a delightful mix of sunshine and scattered showers across the region. Don't be surprised if you find yourself caught in a thunderstorm or two, especially up north near the east coast. Keep an eye out for those isolated showers turning into a full-blown downpour near St Lawrence. And if you happen to be in the northern Peninsula, be prepared for some widespread showers coming your way. As for temperatures, it's going to be a bit cooler down south, but up north and along the east coast, things might get a bit toasty. In fact, we're talking severe heatwave conditions along the northeast tropical coast. So make sure you stay hydrated and find some shade to escape the wrath of the sun. Remember, while it may seem like smooth sailing in the southwest, storms and heatwaves can strike at any moment. So stay safe out there, folks!

Region Round-up - BOM

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Region Forecast: Well, folks, it seems like we've got a bit of a mixed bag on the weather front. There's a high chance of showers creeping up on us, especially in the afternoon and evening. And just to keep things interesting, there's also a chance of a thunderstorm making an appearance. Now, you might want to hold onto your hats because those winds are going to start off light and then crank up to around 15 to 20 km/h by midday. And just when you think you've got it all figured out, they'll go back to being light in the early afternoon. As for temperatures, it's going to be a bit of a rollercoaster. Overnight, things will cool down to the low to mid 20s, but during the day, we're looking at highs reaching the low to mid 30s. So, make sure you stay hydrated and seek shade to avoid turning into a walking, talking heatwave yourself. Remember, when it comes to storms and heatwaves, it's always better to be safe than sorry. So, keep an eye on the skies, stay cool, and stay safe out there!
