National Synoptic Situation

National Temperature and Rainfall

  • Rain typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.

  • Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.

State conditions

QLD:

So, it looks like New Zealand has decided to flex its muscles with a high extending a weak ridge along the coast. Meanwhile, a not-so-impressive trough is hanging out over the southern interior, probably feeling a bit left out. But wait, here comes a more vigorous trough from the southwest, ready to show them how it's done. This new trough is set to sweep through central and southern parts of Queensland over the weekend, making a grand entrance before gracefully moving offshore on Sunday. The northern part of the trough will be a bit clingy, lingering in the interior into next week, while a ridge casually strolls along the east coast. So, get ready for some weather drama as these atmospheric characters make their way across the state. Time to dust off the umbrella and maybe cancel that beach picnic you had planned. Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes!

NSW and ACT:

Looks like NSW is in for some mixed weather this weekend. A trough here, a ridge there, a cold front sneaking in from the south - it's like a weather buffet. But don't worry, the rainfall should ease up, so you might actually be able to leave your umbrella at home for once. Just be prepared for that sneaky southerly change on Saturday afternoon. And hey, at least we'll end the weekend with a high pressure system crossing the Bass Strait. Who knew weather could be so entertaining?

VIC:

The weather in Victoria is feeling a bit indecisive at the moment. We've got a weak high pressure ridge chilling out over the south east coast, while a low pressure system and cold front are causing some drama in central parts of the state. The cold front will make its grand exit to the east this evening, leaving us to deal with the aftermath until early Friday afternoon. But don't worry, a new high pressure system is coming to save the day on Friday, bringing with it a cool southerly airstream that will keep us feeling refreshed over the weekend and into next week. So grab your sweater and get ready for some breezy days ahead!

SA:

Well, it looks like a high pressure system is making its way over Western Australia, bringing with it some ridging action along the coast. This high is slowly meandering eastward, eventually settling south of the Bight by Saturday and then cozying up over Tasmania by Monday morning. And just when you thought the party was over, a trough decides to crash the party in the west. Mother nature sure has a way of keeping us on our toes, doesn't she? So get ready to keep an eye on those weather updates and plan accordingly, because who knows what she'll throw at us next!

WA:

Well, folks, it looks like severe tropical cyclone Zelia is taking a leisurely stroll off the Pilbara coast before deciding to turn south and crash the party on Friday. This system comes complete with a fancy low pressure trough extending all the way to the Kimberley. So, get ready to batten down the hatches and maybe invest in some extra sunscreen for this unexpected guest.

TAS:

Prepare for a change in winds as a cold front sweeps in from the west, cooling things down on Friday with a brisk westerly flow. Expect a shift to southerly winds on Saturday as a high sets up shop south of the Bight and the low reforms near the Tasman Sea. By Sunday, the high will be making its way towards Tasmania, causing the low to fizzle out by Monday. Stay tuned for more exciting weather updates!

NT:

Well folks, it looks like the monsoon is taking a little vacation up north this weekend, leaving the Top End feeling a bit cooler with some patchy rain. The cloud band will be throwing in the towel on Saturday, so expect drier conditions in the southeast thanks to some southeasterly winds. So grab your umbrellas and prepare for a little bit of everything this weekend in the NT!

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Friday, 14th February

Well, it seems like the temperatures are going to be reaching quite a peak in the Channel Country, Maranoa, and Warrego regions. So, you might want to break out the sunscreen and extra water bottles if you plan on venturing out there. Remember, hydration is key when facing the scorching heat. Stay cool, folks!

Saturday, 15th February

Grab your umbrella and sunscreen, folks! The weather gods are feeling a bit indecisive today. Expect some clouds in the southwest, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms scattered haphazardly elsewhere. Don't be surprised if you find yourself caught in a downpour over the far northern Peninsula - Mother Nature loves to keep us on our toes. Be on the lookout for severe thunderstorms around central and southeast Queensland, but don't worry, Mackay is safe (for now). Temperatures will be all over the place, with some areas feeling like they're melting while others are just chillin' below average. And if you're up north, get ready to sweat it out with a potential heatwave on the North Tropical Coast. So, grab your raincoat, your hat, and your fan - you never know what weather shenanigans are in store for us today. Stay safe out there, weather warriors!

Sunday, 16th February

Grab your umbrella and sunscreen, folks! The weather is looking a bit indecisive today. Partly cloudy in some areas, but don't be surprised if you get caught in a random shower or thunderstorm. If you're in Cape York Peninsula, be prepared for some scattered thunderstorms. Temperatures are all over the place - below average in the southern interior, near average on the Gulf Coast, and above average everywhere else. So basically, dress in layers and be ready for anything. And if you're on the North Tropical Coast, brace yourself for some severe heatwave conditions. It's like Mother Nature decided to turn up the heat just for fun. Stay cool out there, folks!

Monday, 17th February

Grab your umbrellas, folks! You might need them for those isolated showers scattered around. And don't forget your sunscreen - those above-average temperatures in the northwest and northeast coast are nothing to joke about. Stay dry and stay cool out there!

Region Round-up - BOM

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Region Forecast: Expect some clouds to block out the sun and potentially ruin your picnic plans. There's a decent shot of rain coming through, so maybe bring an umbrella if you don't want to get wet. Don't be surprised if you hear some thunder rumbling in the distance - it's just nature's way of adding a little excitement to your day. The winds will be gentle, almost like a soothing breeze. As night falls, temperatures will drop to the 20s, so make sure to bring a light jacket if you plan on staying out late. During the day, it's going to be hot enough to make you question why you ever complained about the cold.
