National Synoptic Situation

National Temperature and Rainfall

  • Rainย typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.

  • Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.

State conditions

QLD:

Well folks, it looks like we've got the monsoon trough doing its thing down at Cape York Peninsula. It's gonna shift up north tomorrow, so watch out for that. There's also a tropical low hanging out near the northeast coast, but don't worry, it's gonna drift away soon enough. Over on the east coast, there's a weak ridge just chillin' south of the trough. And down near the New South Wales border, we've got a slow-moving trough causing some trouble in the southern interior. Keep an eye out for the next trough coming in from the southwest - it's gonna make its way through central and southeastern Queensland later this week and into the weekend. So grab your umbrellas and hold onto your hats, folks!

NSW and ACT:

Well, it looks like we've got a couple of troughs hanging around, one near the coast and another up north. They're bringing some showers and thunderstorms our way, but don't worry - they'll start to fizzle out by midweek. But hold onto your hats, because a cold front is on its way with its trusty sidekick, a trough. They're planning to crash our state later in the week and stick around through the weekend. Expect more showers and storms before they make their grand exit, leaving us with a cool, windy, and dry change in the weather. So grab your umbrella and sweater, it's going to be a wild ride!

VIC:

Well, it looks like we've got a high pressure system doing the slow dance over the Tasman Sea while a low pressure system and cold front are throwing a party down south near Western Australia. The cold front is going to crash into Victoria on Thursday and then make a swift exit to the east by Friday. After the front leaves, a new high pressure system will swoop in like a superhero to save the day, setting up camp south of the Bight and heading southeast for the weekend. So, get ready for some weather acrobatics in the coming days, folks!

SA:

So, we've got a low pressure trough just hanging out in the far northeast, not really going anywhere. Meanwhile, a high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is playing boss and telling those winds to go northeast to north over SA. But hold on to your hats because a cold front is on its way from the west, scheduled to crash the party on Wednesday and Thursday. After that drama, a high pressure system will come in and clean up the mess over the waters to the south in the next few days. So, buckle up and enjoy the ride as we watch these weather systems do their thing!

WA:

Well, isn't this just lovely news for the central Pilbara and northwest Kimberley coast? A low pressure trough is hanging out, making friends with Tropical Low 18U offshore. They're planning on taking a little vacation together, potentially turning into a Tropical Cyclone by Wednesday. How exciting! They'll be heading towards the Pilbara coast, but don't worry, they'll be taking their time and getting stronger on Thursday and Friday. Looks like the east Pilbara or southwest Kimberley coast might have some unexpected guests soon. Time to break out the party hats and umbrellas!

TAS:

Well, it looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive this week in Tasmania. We've got a high pressure system doing its thing over the Tasman Sea, directing some northeasterly winds our way. But hold on to your hats, because those winds are going to ramp up and warm things up on Wednesday. Then, just when you thought you had it all figured out, along comes a cold front from the west on Thursday. Say goodbye to those warm northerly winds, because we're about to get hit with a cooler westerly stream. It's like Mother Nature is playing a game of weather ping-pong with us. And the fun doesn't stop there. By Friday, that cold front will have crossed Tasmania, bringing even cooler temperatures with it. So make sure you've got your winter woollies at the ready. But wait, there's more! On Saturday, a high is building south of the Bight while a low deepens over the Tasman Sea. This means we can expect a colder southerly stream to develop. It's like Mother Nature is throwing us a curveball just for kicks. So, in summary, get ready for a rollercoaster of weather this week in Tasmania. And remember, always be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to the great outdoors.

NT:

Well, folks, it looks like the NT is in for a wet and wild week ahead. The monsoon flow is making its grand appearance up north, bringing with it some much-needed showers and thunderstorms. Down south, it's going to be hotter than a kangaroo on a BBQ until Thursday. But fear not, a cloud band and southerly change are on the horizon to cool things down. So grab your umbrellas and sunscreen, it's going to be a weather rollercoaster this week in the NT!

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Wednesday, 12th February

Looks like there will be some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms up north, so make sure to bring an umbrella if you're in that area. Watch out for possible severe thunderstorms in the southern inland west - might want to stay indoors and avoid any flying cows. Winds will be light to moderate, except for the western Peninsula and tropical east coast where they might get a bit feisty. And don't forget your sunscreen, because those maximum temperatures will be near average, but could be above average in some spots - so you might be feeling the heat more than you'd like. Stay dry, stay safe, and remember, weather is just nature's way of keeping us on our toes.

Thursday, 13th February

Looks like we've got a mixed bag of weather happening across the state today. Expect some isolated to scattered showers in most areas, with a chance of a thunderstorm popping up north of Townsville and down south between Longreach and Rockhampton. For those up north on the Peninsula, you might want to grab an umbrella as showers are expected to be more widespread with some moderate falls possible. And watch out for severe thunderstorms in the central and southern interior - so if you're around Blackall or west of St George, maybe stay indoors if you can. Temperatures are all over the place too. It's going to be above average in the west, well above average in the southwest, slightly below average in the southeast interior, and pretty much near average everywhere else. So make sure to dress accordingly and maybe pack a few extra layers just in case. Stay safe out there, folks!

Friday, 14th February

Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive today, with some isolated to scattered showers and the occasional thunderstorm thrown into the mix. If you happen to be in the eastern districts south of Townsville, you might want to keep an eye out for those showers turning into a full-blown storm. Over in the northern Peninsula, it looks like things might get a bit wet with some moderate falls expected. And watch out for severe thunderstorms possibly making an appearance in the central and southern interior around Emerald to Roma. Temperatures are all over the place, with some areas experiencing above-average heat in the west and well above average in the central west and southern interior. So make sure to dress accordingly and stay hydrated, unless you want to feel like you're melting under the blazing sun.

Saturday, 15th February

Looks like we've got a mixed bag of weather today. In the far southwest, expect some clouds hanging around. Moving on to the rest of the region, we've got scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Showers might get a bit heavy up north, so keep an umbrella handy. Now, here's where it gets interesting - there's a possibility of severe thunderstorms in central and southeast Queensland. But don't panic just yet, we're not exactly sure where they'll hit. As for temperatures, it's a bit of a rollercoaster. Down south, it's going to be cooler than usual. Up north and in the interior, things are heating up a bit. And for the rest of us, it's business as usual - not too hot, not too cold. So there you have it, folks. Grab your raincoat, keep an eye on the sky, and brace yourself for whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at us today. Stay safe out there!
