National Synoptic Situation

National Temperature and Rainfall

  • Rainย typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.

  • Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.

State conditions

QLD:

Well, it looks like we've got a bit of a weather situation on our hands, folks. The monsoon trough is hanging out down near Cape York Peninsula, but it's going to start creeping up towards the northern Peninsula by Wednesday. There's a tropical low loitering over the Gulf Country, making its way east along the trough towards the tropical east coast on Tuesday. Meanwhile, we've got a weak ridge just chillin' out over the east coast, south of the trough. Over in the southern interior near the New South Wales border, there's a trough hanging around, not really in any rush to move on. And just when you thought it couldn't get any more exciting, another trough might be making its way in from the southwest, heading up through central and southeastern Queensland later in the week and into the weekend. So, keep an eye out for any storms or heatwaves that might come our way and make sure you stay safe out there, mate. And remember, if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the outback!

NSW and ACT:

Well, looks like we've got some troughs hanging around the coast and heading up north, bringing us a good ol' dose of showers, rain, and thunderstorms. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, we've got a cold front and trough coming through later this week to really shake things up. So, folks, make sure you stay safe out there and keep an eye on any storm warnings. It's gonna be a wild ride, but as they say, better to be safe than sorry. And remember, it's all just Mother Nature doing her thing, so let's all just sit back and enjoy the show - from a safe distance, of course.

VIC:

Well, looks like we've got a low pressure trough hanging out in the east of the State, just casually making its way eastward overnight. Then we've got some northerly flow coming in on Tuesday, getting all cozy before a cold front crashes the party on Thursday. And just to keep things interesting, there's a good chance a low pressure system will pop up over the Tasman Sea on Friday while a high pressure system kicks back south of the Bight. So, you might want to keep an eye out for some stormy weather and maybe even a heatwave or two. Stay safe out there, mate!

SA:

So, it seems like we've got a bit of a weather mash-up happening in the far north east, with a low pressure trough refusing to budge. Down in Tasmania, a high pressure system is doing its best to extend a weak ridge over the south of SA. Meanwhile, out west, a low pressure trough is just hanging around, waiting for a cold front to come along and drag it eastwards. Now, I'm no meteorologist, but it sounds like we might be in for some stormy times ahead. And let's not forget about the heatwaves that could be heading our way. So, make sure you stay safe out there, folks. Keep an eye on the weather warnings and take any necessary precautions. Let's not get caught out in the wild and wacky world of Australian weather, eh?

WA:

Well, would you look at that, a cheeky low pressure trough lingering up north in WA. And would you believe it, a Tropical Low is getting its act together near the north Kimberley coast. This little troublemaker is expected to saunter southwest along the west Kimberley coast and possibly strut its stuff as a Tropical Cyclone by early Tuesday. After that, it's planning to make a beeline towards the Pilbara coast. Now, I don't know about you, but that sounds like a recipe for some wild weather. So, do yourself a favor and stay safe out there, mate. You never know when Mother Nature might decide to throw a tantrum and unleash a storm or heatwave. So, keep an eye on the updates and make sure you're prepared for whatever she throws your way.

TAS:

Well, brace yourself, mates, because we've got a high pressure system lurking about down south near Tassie, making its way over to the Tasman Sea on Tuesday. This means we're in for a bit of a warm northeasterly breeze blowing through the state. But hold onto your hats, because by Wednesday that breeze is going to pick up and get even warmer. And just when you thought things couldn't get any more exciting, on Thursday a cold front is going to swoop in from the west, shifting that wind around to the north. Now, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that cold front is going to make its grand entrance late Thursday, bringing with it a cooler westerly wind on Friday. So, my friends, keep an eye out for any stormy weather or heatwaves heading our way and make sure you stay safe out there. Cheers!

NT:

G'day mates, looks like we've got some stormy weather heading our way up north in the Gregory and Barkly Districts. So, it's time to buckle up and brace yourselves for some scattered monsoonal showers and thunderstorms in the northern NT this week. And let's not forget about the scorching hot temperatures down south that'll have us sweating bullets until Thursday. But fear not, a cloud band and southerly change will swoop in to save the day. Stay safe out there and make sure to keep cool and hydrated during these wild weather conditions, alright?

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Tuesday, 11th February

Well, would you look at that! We've got a bit of a mixed bag happening in our neck of the woods today. There's some partly cloudy action down south of Winton, with a few showers and thunderstorms scattered around south of Blackall, Emerald and Gympie. But don't worry, it's just isolated to scattered showers in the east. Up north from Mackay to Winton, we've got some scattered showers and thunderstorms making an appearance, and it looks like they might even turn into a bit of a storm with some heavy rainfall north of Bowen. And let me tell you, it's raining cats and dogs between Ayr and Cairns, with some heavy falls expected in the northern interior. Make sure you hold onto your hats, because we've got some light to moderate northwesterly winds up in Far North Queensland, and they'll be turning east to southeasterly in other areas. And keep an eye out for those fresh winds along the western Peninsula coast and the tropical east coast - they might just catch you off guard. Meanwhile, the far southwest is dealing with some northwesterly winds of its own. Temperatures are a bit all over the place today. It's slightly below average up north, well below average in Townsville, and above average in the southern interior. And don't even get me started on the far southwest - it's well above average down there! So stay safe out there, folks, and keep an eye on those showers and storms. You never know what Mother Nature has up her sleeve!

Wednesday, 12th February

Well folks, looks like Mother Nature is up to her usual antics again. We've got some partly cloudy skies out west near Winton, and scattered showers with a side of isolated thunderstorms up north from Mackay to Camooweal. It's gonna be raining cats and dogs up there, so make sure to pack your umbrella. Over in the northern Peninsula, we're expecting some moderate falls so keep an eye out for those. And watch out for severe thunderstorms in the southern inland, especially around Lockyer Valley and Charleville. It's gonna be hot as Hades out there, with temperatures soaring above average in some parts. So stay safe out there, folks. Keep an eye on the skies and make sure you're prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. And remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to storms and heatwaves.

Thursday, 13th February

G'day mates! Looks like we've got a bit of a mixed bag of weather coming up. We've got some showers and thunderstorms scattered around, especially up north where it might get a bit rowdy. Make sure you're keeping an eye out for any storms brewing, and stay safe out there! Temperatures are all over the place too - hotter than a barbie in the outback out west, slightly cooler in the southeast, and just right everywhere else. Remember to stay hydrated and slap on that sunscreen, cause it's gonna be a scorcher in some parts. So keep an eye on the skies and stay safe in this wild weather we're having. And remember, it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to Mother Nature's mood swings!

Friday, 14th February

Well, looks like ol' Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody today, with scattered showers and the occasional thunderstorm making an appearance. Don't be surprised if things get a bit wild up in the northern Peninsula - those moderate falls could really put on a show. Over in the east, from Townsville to Toowoomba, it's all about the showers. No thunderstorms here, just a good old-fashioned rain shower to keep things interesting. As for temperatures, well, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The west is sitting pretty with above-average temps, while the central west and southern interior are really sizzling. The rest of us are just hanging out at near-average temps, trying to stay cool in this heatwave. Remember, when storms and heatwaves hit, it's important to stay safe. Keep an eye on the forecast, stay hydrated, and maybe invest in a good ol' Aussie fan to keep cool. Stay safe out there, mate!

Region Round-up - BOM

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Region Forecast: Well, it seems like we're in for a bit of a wet one, with a high chance of rain throughout the day. There's even a chance of a rumble or two from Mother Nature, so best be prepared for some thunderstorms. Heavy falls could be on the cards for those inland areas, so keep an eye out for any flash flooding. Winds will be coming in from the north to northwesterly direction, at a breezy 15 to 20 km/h, before shifting to the west to northwesterly at 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day. Don't worry though, they'll ease up in the evening and become light. Overnight temperatures will drop to the low to mid 20s, so it might be a bit muggy for sleeping. Daytime temperatures will reach a top of 26 to 31 degrees, so make sure to stay hydrated and slap on some sunscreen if you're venturing outdoors. Remember to stay safe during any storms or heatwaves, mate. Better to be safe than sorry!
