National

Well, it seems like we've got a high just casually strolling its way over southeastern Australia, maintaining a pretty firm ridge over the state. This high is apparently going to take a leisurely trip into the southern Coral Sea by Wednesday, and then continue its journey eastward over the next few days. Meanwhile, a trough is planning to crash the party in the southwest of the state on Thursday, making its way east across southern and central Queensland by Friday. And just when you thought the trough would finally leave, it may decide to stick around in eastern Queensland for the weekend. But don't worry, a weak high is expected to make an appearance over southeastern Australia on Sunday, gracefully gliding into the Tasman Sea by next Monday and extending a weak ridge over the state. Just another day in the exciting world of meteorology!

National 4 Day Forecast

Windy.com NEW ACCESS 4 Day Accumulated Rain and Synoptic

Wednesday, 18th September

Northern Queensland is experiencing some moody weather today, with clouds hanging around and showers popping up here and there. It's like the weather can't make up its mind - from isolated showers to patchy light rain to the occasional thunderstorm, it's all happening up there. Down south, things are a bit more chill, with some sunshine and a few clouds hanging around. Watch out for possible morning frost in the south and some fog in the southeast - Mother Nature is keeping things interesting as usual. So grab your umbrella and your sunglasses, because you never know what she's got up her sleeve. And don't forget to hold onto your hat, those winds can be a bit cheeky at times. Stay weather-wise, folks!

Thursday, 19th September

Looks like some parts of the north and east are in for a splash of rain, while the southwest and southern interior will be enjoying some sunshine. Keep an eye out for those pesky west to northwesterly winds causing some high fire danger ratings inland. Temperatures will be above average in the south and near average everywhere else. Time to break out the sunscreen or the umbrella, depending on where you are!

Friday, 20th September

Prepare yourselves for some isolated showers in the eastern districts and over Cape York Peninsula, with a chance of them becoming scattered north of Ingham. The western parts of Queensland will be mostly sunny, while the rest will be partly cloudy. Keep an eye out for possible morning fog between Cairns and Gladstone. Moderate to locally fresh west to southwesterly winds are expected, leading to high fire dangers inland in central and southern Queensland. Maximum temperatures will be above average, with the southeast reaching well above average and the far southwest staying near average. So, grab your umbrellas and sunscreen, folks!

Saturday, 21st September

There's a chance of some light sprinkles in the east and over Cape York Peninsula today, with scattered showers expected along the southeast coast between the Sunshine Coast and Bundaberg as well as on K'gari. The far southwest will be partly cloudy, while the rest of the region will enjoy mostly sunny skies. Keep an eye out for morning fog between Cairns and Mackay. Temperatures will be above average overall, although they may be closer to average in the far southwest. Just another typical day in Queensland!

Regional Round-Up

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody today, with clouds looming overhead and a high chance of showers near the coast - so be prepared to dodge those raindrops if you're planning a seaside stroll. Winds will be blowing in from the east at a brisk 25 to 35 km/h, so hold onto your hats! As night falls, temperatures will drop to a somewhat chilly 14 to 20 degrees, so you might want to cozy up with a warm blanket. Tomorrow, daytime temperatures will hover between 21 and 27 degrees, giving us a bit of a reprieve from the cooler night air. So grab your umbrella and raincoat, it looks like we're in for a wet and windy day!

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Looks like there might be some wet stuff falling from the sky up north, and a teeny bit elsewhere. You might hear a big boom in the distance later on. The wind will be doing its thing, blowing from the east to southeast at a moderate pace, then switching to the east to northeast and picking up a bit more speed. As the day turns to night, temperatures will drop to a somewhat cool range, with daytime temperatures not too hot, not too cold. Just right.

Central Coast and Whitsundays

Looks like we've got some clouds drifting in, along with a slim chance of a surprise shower. Hold onto your hats, as those easterly winds will be blowing at a brisk 20 to 30 km/h before calming down later in the evening. As the night progresses, temperatures will drop to a cool 13 to 17 degrees, while daytime highs will hover in the mid to high 20s. Time to break out the light jacket for those evening strolls!

Peninsula

Well, it appears we have some clouds looming overhead today, with a moderate possibility of showers expected along the east coast. Don't get too excited though, as the chances of rain elsewhere are practically non-existent. Expect some breezy easterly winds blowing at around 25 to 35 km/h. Overnight, temperatures will drop to a range of 18 to 23 degrees, while daytime temperatures will reach a toasty 28 to 34 degrees. So, grab your raincoat if you're on the east coast, and prepare for a mixed bag of weather conditions.

Gulf Country

Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive today. There's a slight chance of a shower inland, but don't hold your breath anywhere else. Keep an eye out for a thunderstorm inland in the morning and afternoon - Mother Nature's way of keeping things interesting. Winds will be coming from the east at a moderate 15 to 25 km/h, then switching to a gentler southeasterly breeze of 15 to 20 km/h in the early afternoon. By evening, the winds will be so light, it'll be like they're not even there. Overnight, temperatures will drop to a comfortable 18 to 22 degrees, giving you the perfect excuse to break out that extra cozy blanket. During the day, things will warm up to a toasty 29 to 34 degrees, so make sure to stay hydrated and maybe consider investing in some sunscreen. Mother Nature can be a bit unpredictable, but hey, that's half the fun, right?

Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders

It appears that our skies will be graced with clouds today, possibly giving us a slight chance of experiencing a shower. If we're feeling lucky, we may even be treated to a thunderstorm later in the morning. Expect winds from the east to northeast, blowing at a moderate speed of 20 to 30 km/h. As we tuck ourselves in for the night, temperatures are forecasted to drop to a cool 13 to 18 degrees, with daytime temperatures climbing to a rather warm 25 to 31 degrees.

Capricornia

Expect some clouds today, along with a gentle breeze that will shift from east to northeast throughout the day. Temperatures will drop to a cool 7 degrees overnight, before climbing to the mid to high 20s during the day. Time to grab a sweater for the evening and some sunscreen for the afternoon!

Central Highlands and Coalfields

Expect a dash of frost around the Carnarvon Ranges in the wee hours of the morning. Winds will start off as a light breeze before doing a little dance to the east and northeast at 15 to 20 km/h. By the time evening rolls around, they'll be taking a breather. Temperatures will dip to a cozy 5 to 13 overnight, only to climb to the high 20s during the day. So, don't forget your sunscreen and your thermal undies!

Central West

Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive today. We'll start off with some light winds from the east to southeasterly at a leisurely 15 to 20 km/h, but don't get too comfortable because they'll switch to a more brisk east to northeasterly at 20 to 30 km/h in the morning. Overnight, temperatures will drop to a cool 9 to 15 degrees, so you might want to grab an extra blanket. During the day, we're looking at a high of around 30 degrees, so make sure to pack your sunscreen and a hat. It's going to be a mixed bag out there, so be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws our way!

North West

Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive today. There's a medium chance of showers up in the northwest, but don't hold your breath for rain anywhere else. If you happen to be north of Mt Isa, you might want to keep an eye out for a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon - just to keep things interesting. Winds will be doing their thing, blowing northeast to southeasterly at 15 to 25 km/h before deciding to take a break in the early afternoon. Overnight, temperatures will be dropping to a relatively cool 15 to 19 degrees, so you might want to grab an extra blanket. During the day, it'll warm up to a balmy 27 to 32 degrees - just enough to make you question your choice of clothing.

Channel Country

Another glorious day ahead, my dear weather enthusiasts! Expect some light breezes shifting directions throughout the day, just to keep things interesting. Nighttime will bring a slight chill with temperatures dropping to a cozy 8 to 15 degrees. Daytime temperatures will soar to a toasty 28 to 33 degrees for those looking to bask in the sunshine. Enjoy!

Maranoa and Warrego

Prepare to witness a delightful mix of sunshine and frost in the northeastern region during the early morning hours. Expect gentle breezes to accompany you throughout the day. Nighttime temperatures will drop to a chilly 2 to 8 degrees, while daytime temperatures will rise to the pleasant high 20s. Enjoy the weather rollercoaster!

Darling Downs and Granite Belt

Looks like we're in for a classic case of sunshine with a side of fog in the far east during the wee hours. Don't expect any wild winds causing chaos, just some light breezes to keep things interesting. Temperatures will be dropping to a crisp 4-7 degrees overnight, before climbing back up to the mid to high 20s during the day. Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes!

Wide Bay and Burnett

Prepare for a day of mostly sunshine with a slight chance of fog in the morning, especially in the southern regions. There's a small possibility of a shower around K'gari, but don't hold your breath for rain anywhere else. Winds will start off light but will pick up to a north to northeasterly direction at 15 to 20 km/h in the early afternoon before calming down in the evening. Temperatures will drop to a cool 6 to 12 degrees overnight, with daytime temperatures climbing into the mid to high 20s. So, grab your sunscreen and shades for a day of classic Australian weather!

Southeast Coast

Expect a smidgen of fog in the wee hours, possibly followed by a sprinkle for those unlucky enough to live by the coast. The winds will be playing a game of musical chairs, starting off light and eventually settling in the northwest to northeasterly direction. Temperatures will be doing their usual dance, dropping down to 7 to 13 degrees overnight before skyrocketing to 23 to 28 during the day. So, grab your sunglasses and maybe an umbrella, just in case!
